I have small blood vessels on my cheeks and skin, can I treat these?
Small blood vessels appearing on the noise and around the cheeks often the traits of a skin condition called rosacea. Rosacea most commonly affects fair-skinned people and is estimated to affect up to 1 in 10 people. Rosacea affects twice as many women as men, although it can be more serious in men. In more severe cases, the skin can thicken and enlarge, usually on and around the nose. There is no cure for rosacea, but treatments are available to control these symptoms.
We always recommend visiting your GP before treating any of your skin complaints, as they will be able to review your symptoms and prescribe an effective treatment plan that works best for your skin!
Those with symptoms of rosacea should avoid harsh cleansers or exfoliants. Avoid over-rubbing, scrubbing or massaging the face as doing so can further irritate your skin. Always use oil-free products as these can stimulate breakouts or block pores. For men with symptoms of rosacea, the Elave Shave Essentials are designed to be used on sensitive skin to prevent irritation and redness, leaving the skin protected, hydrated and deeply moisturised after shaving. Use the Elave Sensitive Men's Shave Balm with soothing Aloe Vera and cooling Menthol to reduce skin irritation and redness. Team this up with the Sensitive Shave Gel for a close smooth shave without irritation and redness, the sulfate- free shaving formula is gentle on sensitive skin and helps prevent razor drag and burn. For women, using the Elave Hydrating Cream Cleanser will provide a unique combination of hydrating emollients and skin cleansers to remove make-up and impurities, the pure formula means it will not irritate sensitive eyes when cleansing. The Vitamin and Aloe Vera enriched formula soothes the skin preventing moisture loss and irritation.
How can I protect dry or chapped hands? The wear and tear of daily life means that hands are often damaged and over-exposed to the elements and this can lead to brittle finger nails and chapped hands. Always use a gentle hand wash and avoid soap or anti-bacterial products, which are often very harsh on skin.
Never ever cut cuticles back, as this leaves nails open to the elements where they can become dry or brittle. We recommend using the Elave Hand Wash as it is gentle enough to use regularly and is formulated for dry skin conditions. Hand cream such as Elave Intensive Cream or Elave Dermo Hand Treatment are other great soothing moisturisers for your sensitive hands. Keep in the bathroom, the bedroom and the kitchen, near the sink so you can use after washing your hands.
What is the best way to prevent my eczema flare-ups? There is currently no cure for Eczema, however, there are some great regimes that can keep the condition at bay. One of the most common ways to prevent irritation is to always use a soap substitute. This means never washing your body or hair with products which contain soaps or preservatives, we recommend using the Elave Sensitive Body Wash and the Sensitive Shampoo both are free from sulfates, parabens, perfume and alcohol. The shampoo, containing natural glycerine, will protect your sensitive scalp from dryness and flaking.
Moisturising is another important element of treating eczema. Dry skin should always be moisturised even when there is no flare, as this builds a barrier, preventing flares from triggers, products should be clean, and free of harsh chemicals including MI, sodium sulfate laureth, fragrances and other abrasive ingredients. We always recommend seeking guidance from a medical professional, when it comes to a treatment plan for eczema, as they who will be able to advise on the most suitable treatment plan for you!
I have oily skin that is prone to acne, should I avoid moisturising my skin? Many people with oily skin often avoid moisturising, as they fear it will make their skin look shiny and greasy. Use something light, such as the Elave Oil Free Skin Balancing Moisturiser, it is a sheer, absorbent cream with a matte finish to combat shine on oily skin. Pair with the SPF 45 Daily Skin Defence as it is both light, absorbent which means and it works well wearing under makeup or without. t’s also important to ensure you have an effective cleansing routine, use something to cleanse the skin that is suitable for your acne type skin but doesn’t strip all the oils from the skin surface. What can I do to protect my dry skin as I age? For those of us with dry skin, it can be challenging to keep skin soft and supple as we age. Here are a few ways to surge moisture back into dry skin and keep lines and furrows at bay.
Firstly, you can never drink enough water. If your skin is not getting a sufficient amount of water, the lack of hydration will present itself by making skin dry, tight and flaky. Dry skin has less resilience and is therefore more prone to wrinkling.
Second, avoid sun at all costs– over exposure to sun is the leading cause of wrinkles and skin damage. UV light, especially UVA causes ageing of the skin by breaking down the collagen and elastin which give it support. Sun damage not only makes you look older, it is also the main cause of skin cancer for people in Ireland and most cases are caused by UV rays from the For body, use the Elave Sensitive Sun SPF 30, now available in a handy 100ml travel bottle, which is perfect for the intrepid traveller. To protect your face and neck, the Daily Skin Defence SPF 45 is a unique combination of oil free emollients, which hydrate the skin together with high UVA & UVB protection. Not only should you avoid too much time spent in the sun, you should also be avoid taking baths or showers that are too hot. Although it might be tempting in frosty winter weather, hot water dries out the skin. Make sure to keep showers brief as this is good, not only for the environment, but also for preventing dry skin and flakiness!
Avoid harsh exfoliants that thin the skin and induce the effects of ageing. The Elave Rejuvenating Cleansing Treatment is a unique combination of hydrating skin cleansers combined with 12% Glycolic Acid Arginine complex which gently exfoliates and rejuvenates the skin. The 12% Glycolic Acid Arginine complex actively promotes cellular regeneration and stimulates collagen synthesis to reveal younger, brighter skin.
Finally, don’t smoke! This might be an obvious one, but we can’t stress enough those who smoke end up with drier, thinner skin, leading to more lines and furrows. Smoking can break down the skin’s natural collagen which makes skin look less firm and more wrinkled.
